To the Search of the Beginning...there is no End. Hello, welcome to the First Things Museum. Here is a collection of some of the first things that were ever made, like the first pop-up toaster, first radio for home use, first steam iron, etc. I have tried to limit myself to the first things that were actually made and used by people. Some things first patented were not produced first, so they don't count. I try to satsify the purists (including the one in me) as much as possible, paying attention to even the serial numbers. I try to get to the first year a given item was made. As I delve into the wonderful world of antiques and collectibles(first things less than a 100 years old), I am fascinated by how things were discovered and invented and patented and produced successfully to be used by the people. I found that some inventors credited with Firsts were actually not the firsts, but a modification of the firsts. Usually, several people from several areas of science come together to discover a principle, which is carried on further and further to see the product that you hold in your hands. I feel sometimes it is not fair to attribute the whole credit to just one person, as it is most definitely not the truth! Still, life is here to enjoy, so I hope you will find the First Things here fun, and please write to me if you have any comments! VJ.
